The word streetwear is undoubtedly present around us as a constant certainty. In the nineties, however, this was not the case and the first to dedicate themselves to this now consolidated world can certainly be considered pioneers.
Among these, the Californian brand XLARGE deserves to be mentioned, born from the mind of Adam Silverman and Eli Bonerz who started, precisely at the beginning of 1990, with a clothing store. The store catered to their diverse community and was quickly adopted by personalities such as Mike D of the Beastie Boys, Spike Jonez, and Chloe Sevigny.
Here they began to propose a series of sneakers that were carefully selected following research done in the area, the first ideas of workwear and even some independent brands.
At this point, the idea of its own brand was born, XLARGE, characterized by an impactful logo in Futura Extra Bold accompanied by a monkey drawn by the artist Steven Gianako in his work "Millions of Gorillas".
The success was immediate and lasted over the years until it reached Japan with the B's International company which still supports the brand today.
The collections are in fact made up of a series of garments, typically streetwear, including hoodies, t-shirts, shirts, crewnecks, a workwear outfit and even a skateboard deck, decorated with graphics that summarize the aesthetics of XLARGE.
The XLARGE clothing brand was a true reflection of its surroundings and Los Angeles lifestyle. The brand drew inspiration from work wear, vintage, and club scene aesthetics; to mid-century design, skateboarding and music influences. Iconic for its Gorilla logo, XLARGE is established as one of the originals and continues to influence generations of streetwear culture worldwide.
Very soon in store and HERE.
