Champion is a US company producing footwear, clothing and sports equipment. Founded in 1919, its headquarters are located in Winston-Salem in North Carolina. Prior to the acquisition by Sara Lee Corp., the company's headquarters were in Rochester. The company was founded in 1919 by the Feinbloom brothers under the name of "Knickerbocker Knitting Company". The company signed an agreement with the Michigan Wolverines to produce the uniforms for their teams. In the 1930s the company was renamed "Champion Knitting Mills Inc.". Shortly thereafter, Champion products would be adopted by the US Military Academy for use in training and physical education classes. Champion produced uniforms for all NBA teams in the 90s and also for some NFL teams in the 80s and 90s. He also produced sportswear for many universities. Champion was the supplier to the US Olympic basketball team that participated in the 1992 Summer Olympics.
